🎭 Broadway Dreams Came True
Seeing Hamilton on Broadway: From My Living Room to the Real Thing
Okay, this was probably the BEST part of our entire New York City trip.
I have been a little (okay, maybe a LOT) obsessed with Hamilton ever since it came out on Disney+. I’ve watched it more times than I could even guess, listened to the soundtrack over and over, and had plenty of Hamilton sing-alongs in our living room with my friends. And when I say sing-alongs, I mean we know EVERY. SINGLE. WORD.
So getting to actually see Hamiltonon Broadway was kind of a dream come true.
Walking Into the Theater
The second we got to the theater, I was already excited. There is something really cool about seeing the Hamilton signs outside and realizing, Wait... I'm actually about to see this on Broadway.
I already knew the entire story. I knew all of the songs. I knew which parts were coming next. I even knew the little moments between songs.
But seeing it live was completely different.
When the music started, I honestly couldn't believe we were actually there.
Yes, I Knew Every Word
One of the funniest parts about seeing Hamilton live was trying not to sing along.
When you've spent years singing these songs in your living room, your brain automatically wants to join in. 😂
There were definitely moments when I had to remind myself that the people sitting around me had paid to hear the Broadway actors sing — not me.
But in my head? I was absolutely performing right along with them.
And hearing songs that I had listened to hundreds of times being performed live was SO cool. The music sounded bigger, the dancing was amazing, and there were little things happening onstage that I had never really noticed while watching it at home.
It Didn't Feel Like a History Lesson
Obviously, Hamilton is about history, but it doesn't feel like you're sitting in history class.
It feels more like a concert mixed with a really dramatic story.
The songs are fast, funny, emotional and ridiculously catchy. Sometimes so much is happening at once that you don't even know where to look.
And because I already knew the story and the music so well, I could pay more attention to everything else happening onstage — the costumes, dancing, lighting, facial expressions and all the tiny details happening in the background.
It actually made me appreciate the show even more.
Broadway Hamilton vs. Disney+ Hamilton
I LOVE the Disney+ version, and I will probably continue watching it approximately a million more times.
But seeing Hamilton live was just different.
On TV, the camera decides what you're looking at. When you're sitting in the theater, you can look anywhere you want. Sometimes I found myself watching people in the background instead of whoever was singing because there was so much happening onstage.
There is also something about hearing the music live that you just can't get from your TV.
You can actually feel it.
And being in a theater filled with people laughing, cheering and reacting to the same moments makes the whole thing even more exciting.
Was It Worth Seeing If I Already Knew the Whole Show?
YES.
Actually, I think already loving Hamilton made seeing it on Broadway even better.
I wasn't wondering what was going to happen next. I was waiting for my favorite songs, favorite lines and favorite moments to happen right in front of me.
If you've only watched Hamilton on Disney+, seeing it live feels like experiencing something you already love in a completely new way.
And if you're a kid or teen who thinks history is boring, Hamilton might change your mind a little. It somehow takes people you learn about in textbooks and makes their lives feel like an actual story instead of just names and dates you have to memorize for a test.
My Favorite Part
It's really hard to choose just one favorite part because... it's Hamilton.
But honestly, one of my favorite things was simply realizing that I was sitting on Broadway watching Hamilton.
After years of watching it at home, memorizing the soundtrack and singing the songs with my friends, it felt completely unreal to finally be there.
I definitely walked out of the theater still thinking about the music.
And yes, the Hamilton soundtrack was played again after the trip.
Obviously.
My Rating
⭐ 10/10
If you're already a Hamilton fan, GO SEE IT.
If you love Broadway, GO SEE IT.
If you like history but don't want it to feel like a history lesson, GO SEE IT.
And if you've spent years dramatically singing Hamilton songs in your living room with your friends...
You absolutely need to see it on Broadway someday.
Just remember: when you finally get there, you're supposed to let the actors do the singing.
Even when you know every word. 😂
